What if time stood still? It did when Heroes for Children Co-Founder’s, Larissa Linton and Jenny Dowen, both lost their daughters to childhood cancer. As they fought to save their own children’s lives, they witnessed, as well as experienced for themselves, the financial and emotional toll a childhood cancer diagnosis has on an entire family.
What if time marched on to help serve others? It did in 2004, when Larissa and Jenny founded Heroes for Children, the only organization of its type in Texas, to provide desperately needed financial support for these families. Cancer is expensive in every way. HFC seeks to alleviate financial pressure by covering immediate financial needs, such as travel, co-pays, and ongoing expenses like rent/mortgage and utilities. HFC also hosts parties to celebrate birthdays and special milestones, delivers gifts during the holidays, and provides laptops to connect tweens and teens to their schoolwork and friends. Heroes for Children support enables families to focus on the most important part of the cancer treatment – the child. Since its inception, HFC has provided over $5.5 million in program services for HFC families.

Through The Looking Glass, This Year’s Theme: During one of our initial meetings, Tracy had the brilliant idea that we should consider “Through the Looking Glass”, as a possible idea for the luncheon. She went on to explain that it wasn’t in the literal, Alice in Wonderland sense of the phrase, but instead that each person connected with HFC should be able to look at childhood cancer through a different lens. Looking thru this lense one could then gain a sense of wonder and commitment for the work that HFC does. This year’s 2017 Honorary Chair, Alison Malone, brings her own lens to this year’s event, Alison is all too familiar with the reality of childhood cancer. She has a huge heart and has been a true hero for childhood cancer.
