   Laptops for Love

Laptops for Love – donates new laptops to teenagers battling cancer.  This unique program provides teens with a link to the outside world while undergoing cancer treatment and allows them to keep up with their school work while away from the classroom.

Between January 2005 and December 2009, Laptops for Love has provided 252 teenagers with a laptop!  The difference this makes for the teen is immeasurable!

“Dear Heroes for Children,

Thank you so much for the HP Computer for our son. We have been in the hospital for almost 40 days and your gift came at the right time! Johnny has been playing on the computer non-stop and it’s nice to see him smile again”

 Why do families need laptops?

  • Provides a link to the outside world while living in the hospital.
  • Allows families to create websites to keep loved ones abreast of their child's progress.
  • Gives older children the chance to continue working on schoolwork.
  • Entertains children living in the hospital.

Angela with her new laptop

--A letter from Angela's mother, Angela (pictured above) received a laptop in June 2008

"Dear Friends,

I want to say thank you again for the Laptop you sent back in June. She was so excited, we’ve never had a computer before, and she was always asking me for one, every Christmas and birthday. But I couldn’t afford it, being a single mom is kinda hard. But thanks to you my daughter’s wish came true!!!

You are really “Heroes for Children”. When she got diagnosed my whole life change, everything seemed so dark, but now there’s been lots of blessings, lots of good people like Heroes for Children that have been there for me and my children when I need help. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!”

In Loving Memory of Jordan Morgan

Laptops for Love was created in loving memory of Jordan Morgan.  Jordan courageously battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia for two years.  During Jordan's treatment, he was isolated from friends, family, and school.  Jenny and Andrew Scott, Allie's parents lived on the same floor of the hospital at the time of Jordan's treatment.  For more than a week, Jordan's mother borrowed the Scott's laptop for his use.  Seeing that Jordan didn't have the means to get a laptop of his own, the Scotts decided to purchase a new machine for Jordan.  Doctors and nurses reported the change in Jordan's attitude--he sat up more in his bed, began speaking more to others, and communicated with friends.  Jordan's memory is carried out each time a laptop is donated to a teen.  It is in his memory that this program continues.

For more questions about the Laptops for Love Program, contact Liesl Darr at ldarr@heroesforchildren.orgApplications must be made through the hospital social worker. If you are a family member wanting to request a laptop for your patient, you must speak to your hospital social worker.
